what would Jesus do with a bus load of kids from a favella?

when a bus load of kids turns up and you don’t expect them, when you’re tired and have got a busy weekend ahead - what would you do?  What would Jesus do?  What did my friend Morven do?

Truth beats falsehood every time

“And though all the winds of doctrine were let loose to play upon the earth, so Truth be in the field, we do injuriously, by licensing and prohibiting, to misdoubt her strength. Let her and Falsehood grapple; who ever knew Truth put
to the worse, in a free and open encounter?” John Milton, Areopagitica

The Depths of Worship - Old and New Testament connects

When I get that Psalm 103:2 and Ephesians 1:3 are profoundly connected then my heart will be lifted in worship in the ordinary and the everyday in a way that connects the temporal with the eternal in a life lived by grace.

this is a book well worth the read - think you know Jesus? well, maybe think again and again and laugh a little and think some more.

deus in carne

when God drew close to people he didn’t do it in the wonders of creation, the internal space of the heart/mind, nor even in the pages of a book - no: He Himself drew near, in flesh and bood, with breathing, sighing, living, dying and rising from the dead. He drew near in the tangible and inexplicable miracle of God become human in Jesus.

I’m amazed that they can all be identified with such minimalism - and with it being a collage!

My left arm and tattoo.
New Zealand map filled in finally. Celtic patterns on North Island. Maori patterns on South and Stewart Islands. The tattoo speaks of mixed heritage and diverse roots, now grounded in the land and lives of New Zealand. Brad did an amazing job of the infill of Jeremy’s excellent NZ outline. The Celtic knots and hound are inspired by the lines and curves in the texts of the Book of Kells: a very early English/Scots/Celt copy of the New Testament. The celtic hound appears as a symbol of faithfulness and loyalty. The lines speak of sea and land, people and place. The lines of the curves are made to look like ink on parchment - clear but not without rough edges. Look carefully there is a clear and distinct cross as the focal point of the lines - the cross which is the focal point of life and history. The ‘fault lines’ are lines of parchment and land. The good news of Jesus addresses those in need of healing and restoration of relationship with God. It is this good news that brought me and my family to New Zealand: the place we now call home. The patterns and lines of the South and Stewart Island present and represent that newness of home here in NZ. Echoing the celtic patterns but reframing them in a South pacific context. The gospel that brought transferred me here has transformed me here too. There is a clear pathway for the good news of Jesus today.I like that this is the work of two different tattoo artists over a period of time. The outline first and then the infill. That was my journey to NZ: arriving here without history to a country that was ‘blank’ to me and now to have a history of narratives about people and places, about God’s work and my place here in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The ink on my skin, in my skin, will give opportunity to speak of that story to anyone who will listen. It is my story, the story of my family, but more importantly it is God’s story played out into our world.
